Because somehow, we're still here.
Aloysia Schenk
OOC Knowledge
Aloysia Schenk (an assumed name), was born to a poor Jewish family in the early nineteenth century, worked in brothels in De Wallen, and was embraced by a shadowy woman who vanished into the night long before Aloysia was able to introduce herself to Kindred society. The first few weeks were horrible, and the need to drink blood grated on her traditional upbringing like little else could, but Aloysia was a survivor, and she found her damnation a blessed release from the limitations that her birth had placed on her. She joined the Lancea Sanctum, the only Covenant that she felt she could identify with, as a simple lay person. Over the course of a century she became first a deacon, then a popular lay priest, and eventually an Inquisitor in service of the church. As the Nazis began their war of expansion, she used her considerable web of influence among the mortal population to aid in the dissemination of anti-Nazi tracts and the facilitation of communication between revolutionary elements. One of the few Kindred to remain active during the occupation, something only possible due to her command of the powers of the blood, she became a treasured advisor to Antonius when he decided to ascend to the position of Prince. After he claimed praxis, he offered the Mekhet a position as his Seneschal. She, exhausted from the war and believing that she would be hard pressed to find a position in which she could do more good, took him up on the offer… after a few years in torpor, a hard-earned rest after years of mortal-born horror. Since then she has served as Antonius's assistant, historian, advisor, geographer and friend. She is responsible for the administration of the domain and receives messages from the Prince's many vassals, weeding the wheat from the chaff. IC KnowledgeShe's a quiet presence at Court, rarely flouting her position, always at the Prince's side, but never stealing from his glory. She dresses in muted tones and business-like styles; pinstriped black slacks and vest, deep red blouse underneath the vest, long brocade coat or rain coat over that. Her slight, boyish frame doesn't seem to contain any preternatural strength, and her short-cropped hair gives her an air of youthful inexperience. She doesn't even display her Beast. Everyone knows her. Everyone knows that she's the administrator of the domain. Many Kindred, especially the young, dismiss her as the Prince's secretary. Doing so, of course, is folly. She is a Mekhet, she's an elder, and she plays her hands very close to her chest. Very little is known about Aloysia Schenck, the Sanctified Seneschal to Antonius Severijn. Rumors place her embrace some time after the fall of the Kerzian Council, though few know exactly when. Common wisdom states that she was born of the Jewish population of Amsterdam. Indeed, she seemed a Kindred poised to rise in the political arena of the Sanctified until the Nazis rolled in. Little is known about what she did during those nights… though it was not unheard of for German soldiers to simply vanish. Most were even labeled deserters. Whatever she was doing during those years changed her, and when the Sanctified seized power in 1945 she had become content to leave behind her political aspirations, serving her faith without complaint or undue ambition. By all appearances she remains carefully neutral, but she has proven time and again that lying to her (or to the Prince in her presence) is an exercise in futility. She is a brilliant, manipulative woman, balancing the many concerns of the domain without causing undue stress to either herself or her Prince. She also has the unusual position of being a well-regarded Sanctified among the Acolytes and Ordo Dracul, since she approaches them as equals and is truly accepting of their beliefs rather than simply paying lip-service to ideals of religious equality as so many elder Sanctified do. Some Kindred decry her as a tool of the Prince, while others give her the grudging minimal respect that she is due as a creature of her age and skill at fulfilling her duties. |
