Because somehow, we're still here.
The Badacelli Canal Hounds
IC KnowledgeBelow the canals of Amsterdam, near mindless vampires slumber, waiting for the sign to strike down those who break the laws of Prince Severijn by feeding or settling in the Red Light District. They are monstrous, they are deadly, and they can barely be called sentient anymore. This much, the Kindred of Amsterdam tell tales about. Even other Nosferatu fear the Badacelli of Amsterdam, and though the Badacelli haven; a sprawling network of tunnels; is connected to the Nosferatu Warrens, few amongst the haunts would dare go near it. Yet they can sometimes hear the haunting melodies eminating from within, and a myriad of strange, out-of-place sounds that shouldn't be heard below ground. Only a few individuals know more than the above about the Badacelli Canal Hounds, and most know even less than that. Those who do know more know of these cursed fiends, shudder at the mere mention of them. OOC Knowledge
They devote themselves utterly to the principles of monstrosity espoused by the Testament, to the exclusion of nearly all else. To most, they are nameless horrors, the Kindred boogeymen who are very real and will do things to you that not even the Inquisitors themselves would do, but to those few Nosferatu who have closer dealings with them, they are known by five names; Fiddle, Tap, Clank, Modem, and White Noise. Two females, three males. The first amongst them, Fiddle, arrived somewhere around 1900 and subsequently created the Badacelli brood, and is singlehandedly responsible for much of the dreadful reputation that these Canal Hounds have garnered with the Kindred citizens of the city. As stated, they are tasked with upholding the Prince's laws in regards to the canals and the Redlight district, and patrol these areas unseen on a nightly basis, using their unique bloodline discipline to great effect in rooting out potential offenders, sometimes even trying to trick them into breaking the laws just so they can have someone to take apart and bring to the Prince. Besides these areas, they also patrol Amsterdam 'below-ground', the massive network of underground tunnels, crypts, sewers, shelters, and assorted other chambers, of which the Nosferatu and Badacelli warrens are only a small portion. Yet they don't always go unseen: they do interact with the court from time to time, even if only for practical concerns. Most commonly seen amongst Elysium, on her way to meet the Prince, is Tap, who got her name from her skill at tapdancing, aswell as the cane she carries with her everywhere, which she has a variety of uses for; from making herself appear as an ordinary blind mortal (difficult for any nosferatu, but still possible if she doesn't involve herself with them too much) when on the surface, to using the swordcane that it really is as a weapon. Besides Tap, the only other Badacelli that others outside the Nosferatu Warrens might conceivably have some dealings with is Modem, who hacks his way around mortal systems on the surface, using a unique computer system suited for his blindness. Any other computer oriented Kindred might just have had dealings with him through the computer screen, and if they have, they would find that the stereotypes about the canal hounds don't fully apply to Modem. He's a monster alright, but not more so than any asshole Kindred the city is filled with. |
