Aura of Bedlam
Aura of Bedlam (Dominate 3 + Auspex 4)
Plenty of vampires know madness, but none so exemplify it as the Malkovians. The curse flowing through their blood doesn't have to be restricted solely to their own minds however; Rumors of Malkovians who can cause temporary madness in others are becoming more and more common every night. This devotion allows others a glimpse into the insanity of the Malkovian, and is similar in effect to Aura of Dread, but rather than a rising atmosphere of panic, the victim suffers from temporary hallucinations.
Mechanics
- Cost: 1 Willpower
- Dice pool: Manipulation or Presence + Empathy + Dominate versus subject's Composure + Blood Potency
- Action: Contested
Roll results:
- Dramatic failure: The Malkovian's core derangement is set off, and all rolls for the rest of the scene come at a -3 modifier in addition to whatever modifiers the core derangement imposes.
- Failure: Successes rolled for the subject exeed or tie those for the Malkovian. The subject feels no ill effects.
- Success: Those who lose the contested roll suffer a -3 penalty on all actions on account of the distracting nature of the flashes and minor hallucinations they experience, nor can they use Willpower to gain three extra dice on any rolls or +2 to any resistence traits. (Willpower can be spent to activate capabilities or powers that require it, however)
- Exceptional Success: Same as a regular success, but victims also lose a point of Willpower.
- Suggested modifiers:
- User has a severe or extreme derangement: +2
- User has more than one mild derangement: +1
- User isn't a Malkovian: -1
- User doesn't have any derangements: -3
Further information
Victims experience brief visual or auditory hallucinations relating in some way to the core derangement or personality of the Malkovian, though he has no control over what his victims see or hear. For example; if as a core derangement, he has the Inferiority Complex derangement, victims of this power might experience voices that belittle them, perhaps childhood memories of parents showing disappointment come to the forefront. The exact nature of these hallucinations can be decided upon by the ST or amongst the involved players. Anyone within three yards per Willpower dot that the Malkovian posesses can be affected. The Malkovian can not selectively use this power on some people surrounding him and not others. It's effects are all or nothing. Nor can it be used more than once on any subject in a single scene.
The hallucinations last as long as the Malkovian concentrates on it or until the end of the scene, whichever comes first. If the Malkovian does anything else drastic such as attacking someone, performing a dodge maneuver, or activating another Discipline, the effects of Aura of Bedlam cease. Record the number of successes rolled for the Malkovian when this power is activated and compare it to any rolled for newcomers to the power's area of effect
While at present still seemingly exclusive to the Malkovian bloodline; many of the Lunatics wonder if other bloodlines and clans can learn this power, and most of them suspect it's possible; as long as the vampire in question knows madness in some form or another…
