Because somehow, we're still here.
General Site Rules
General Requirements
- All players MUST be over 18 to play
- All players must at least own a copy of the World of Darkness Core book, aswell as the core for the Venue that they wish to play in, such as Vampire: The Requiem.
- Graphic depictions of taboo subjects such as Pedophilia, Necrophilia, or Rape are not permitted. While these are all subjects of intense horror, they are not suitable material to delve into, especially as you never know what another player has gone through. While it is acceptable to subtly allude to such subjects as a source for background mood (such as how your Vampire only feeds on pedophiles because it gives him a sense of purpose), it is NOT acceptable to go any deeper than that. This is not negotionable.
- Players must at all times be respectful towards one another. Honestly, we don't expect you to get along with everyone; Fact is conflicts can and will happen. We do not want our game to devolve into flamewars however. If you have a problem with another player, take it into private messages or mail, or contact an ST or Admin; Please remember that it is a game, and that we're all here to have fun.
- The ST decision on any matter is final; We strongly encourage you to keep an eye on what it is we as ST's are doing however. We're not infallible afterall, we make mistakes just like everyone, sometimes we simply overlook things. If you think we're at fault in a ruling, don't hestitate to explain in a calm and mature fashion to us why exactly you think that's the case. However, when the ST does then finally make a decision, it is final, and you must abide by it.
General Rules of Play
- While we encourage roleplay over rollplay, we find that the mechanics of the game are there for a reason. When using powers, you must make rolls according to the rules in the books. When taking important actions, rolls are also called for. Use common sense in this, you don't need to roll when characters are playing pool together, you DO need to roll to check if your character goes into a fear frenzy because his best friend just got doused in gasoline and lit on fire.
- Combat is ideally handled by ST's. When no ST is around, you can still run fights if all involved parties know the rules, as long as it is not a fight to the death, or with other intended results that may or may not be appreciated by the losing party. Contact an ST when you need to run a fightscene.
IC Knowledge
Players know more than their characters. Let's face it, you've probably read the core books cover to cover, you've probably dug around in various supplements. You as a player know all about various bloodlines, their histories and the sort. You know about disciplines, and various histories. But your character doesn't. Your character doesn't have access to the books. He doesn't have access to his character sheet. He doesn't know that when he's concentrating on performing a task, he's spending a willpower point which he'll get back when indulging a vice. Certainly, the more experience your character has with the World of Darkness, the more he'll know about it. A vampire who'se been around for years will know about the clans, the covenants, and might even have heard of a few bloodlines and what bloodlines are in the first place. Maybe he knows that Gangrel can do that creepy thing where they turn into wolves, or that Ventrue can make you do things you don't want to. But does he know how they do it? Why it works? Probably not.
Some bloodlines and organizations are rare, or take active steps to hide themselves. Unless your character has a reason to know about them, he likely doesn't. This applies to other supernaturals aswell. A vampire doesn't really know a lot about mages or werewolves, other than 'they exist'. Anything more than that should require a specialty in occult, and even then it's not going to give your character a whole lot of specific knowledge. Similarly, a Kindred Lore specialty might give your character knowledge of a lot of myths and history that most Kindred don't know, but it certainly doesn't make the character all-knowing. The World of Darkness is a place of mystery and of secrets…and no one really knows what's out in the shadows.
We're not going to make a detailed list of what's acceptable for average characters to know and what isn't, that would be an impossible task for us and we don't want to be babysitting you anyway. What we ask is that you stick to common sense when deciding what your character does and doesn't know. If ever there's any doubt, please don't hestitate to contact one of the staff.
To give you some general idea however, of what your character might know, or rather; to help you flesh that out; we've set up the Lore Merits system for you to peruse, please check it out.
