Because somehow, we're still here.
Vampire Specific Rules
This section contains rules related to the Vampire venue. Note that at any point in the future, we may decide to either add to, or remove from, these rules. They are subject to change, and when they do, we will post a notice about it in the forums.
Predator's Taint
You are not required to roll for the predator's taint (though we certainly encourage you to if you want!). The main reason for this is that we don't want a large percentage of meetings between vampires to descend into instant violence. An alternative would be to make player's roll for the taint only once for every Kindred they meet, but it would be difficult to track for a lot of players who their characters and who they haven't met. So the taint is optional. However, please remember that the predator's taint IS still there. It should be roleplayed accordingly.
Havens
Due to the feudal nature of the city, we require players to inform the ST where their havens are located (aswell as any other attributes they might have). This ALSO applies to characters who don't have the haven merit; we make the assumption that every character has at least a basic place to stay. We specifically need to know in what district of the setting the Haven is located, and any details it might have. This information may or may not come into play based on the Barony and Primacy level play. So, PM that information over to the ST!
Note that each district/domain has limits or minimums on the various Haven Qualities. In most of Amsterdam itself, for instance, a typical Haven can be no longer larger than 2 Dots in Size. See the various District/Domain information pages for more information on this, or contact staff.
Feeding and Vitae Pools
We strongly encourage you to keep track of your character's vitae pool. While we'd like to have an integrated system whereby you can simply track this through the member center's database, implementing that is simply impractical for us at this point in time. Therefore, we're going to have to rely on you guys to take care of this stuff yourself.
In other words, if you wanted to, yes, you could cheat and always have a full vitae pool and do whatever the hell you want. If we find out about you doing so however…we will not be pleased. Nor will other players who do actually play by the rules.
Feeding is a straightforward enough process. You select a means of feeding, such as 'grabbing a guy straight from the street', 'seducing women in a bar', or 'using dominate to get what you want. Any reasonable method will work. Then you select which traits are appropiate to use. For the preceding methods, one could imagine the following dice pools; Strength + Brawl, Presence + Socialize or Pursuasion, Intelligence or Manipulation + Dominate.
A failure on any of these rolls shouldn't represent a negative outcome like trying to grab a guy to feed on him but having him run off to the cops. They're general rolls used to reduce the act of finding and actually making the feeding attempt to one handy little roll.
Once you have at least 1 success on this roll, you can then add a number of Vitae points to your sheet up to a maximum of 7, at which point the average mortal will be utterly dead. However, serious injury will occur well before that. In general, assume that you can safely draw about 4 Vitae before a victim falls unconscious from bloodloss, and a maximum of 5 Vitae before he needs an ambulance (a level 8 sin). If you take 7 Vitae, you must inform an ST and roll for humanity. (It counts as a level 4 sin)
Certain modifiers may apply to your general feeding rolls as dictated by storylines (this will be announced on the forums if and when it happens). Your rolls will also receive modifiers based on what domain, if any, you have access to. If you become a Tenant, Vassal, or Lord, contact an ST to help you with determining what modifiers, if any, apply to your rolls.
For the sake of convenience, you can only make one feeding roll per 24 hour period, however; you can feed on other characters (both PC's and NPC's) IC. So if you're in a chatscene or forum thread where your character gets into a fight with say a drugdealer, feel free to try and bite him to get some precious Vitae in addition to your regular feeding roll.
Let's summarize how Vitae is to be tracked;
- Remove 1 Vitae ever 24 hour period.
- Remove Vitae points as required by activated disciplines/bloodbuff
- Add Vitae points as desired on a succesful general feeding roll (once every 24 hours) - Apply modifiers as described below.
- Add Vitae points as desired through IC feeding in scenes.
- If your character has less than 5 Vitae in his system, you must make a roll to resist hunger frenzy. This is an extended roll. If your character has less than 5 Vitae but more than 2 Vitae, this roll requires 3 successes and comes at a -1 mod. If your character has 1 or 2 Vitae in his system, the extended roll must reach 5 successes, and comes at a -2 mod. If at any point before the target number of successes is reached a failure comes up, your character goes into a hunger frenzy and drains the victim until death. At this point, inform an ST and make a humanity roll. (a level 4 sin)
Potential modifiers include;
- Feeding on animals: +2
- Feeding in the Rack: +2 (note, if your character is not recognized by the court, you must inform an ST when you are feeding in the rack)
- Taking care to hide your feeding: -2 (a good idea for unrecognized characters)
- Hunting in the Barrens: -2
It is also an important thing to understand that Amsterdam is a very feudal city, and feeding in someone else's domain may not be appreciated. If you're feeling adventurous, you might want to consult with the player of a character who controls a domain/district, and tell them that your character is secretly feeding in their domain. With the help of an ST, we may then figure out if the vampire in charge of the domain can find out about it. This is an entirely optional part of the process. We'd like to be able to keep track of all of this, but that would be extraordinarly impractical and so we're making it optional, for your RP pleasure.
