Shadows over Amsterdam

Because somehow, we're still here.

Amstelveen

Amstelveen is considered to be one of the best places in the country to live, with excellent amenities, aswell as recreational opportunities. Close to both Amsterdam and Schiphol. Wealthy people from Amsterdam have always shown a preference to settle in the former city of Amstelveen, as it is both close to Amsterdam proper aswell as Schiphol airport. It's strategic location has given it a great appeal for international businesses, and expats working for those businesses. The largest Japanese community in the Netherlands is located in Amstelveen, and many from the US, Canada, Great Brittain, South Korea, and other european and east-asian countries make their home here aswell.

Amstelveen is bordered on the west by what can be considered the last true remaining forest in the region (excluding those in 't Gooi), though it is intersected by numerous bicycle paths. The Amstelveense Poel (Puddle), is also part of the forest, and provides for water-based recreational activities year round. Beyond the forest lies Schiphol airport. To the south and east lay patches of historic polder farmland, with Amsterdam South-East being only a short distance further to the east. In the north, Amstelveen is connected to Amsterdam's Zuidas Business district, making it impossible for the untrained eye to spot where Amstelveen ends and Amsterdam begins.
