Because somehow, we're still here.
Hollandsche Schouwburg
The Hollandsche Schouwburg is a building designed in classicist style and which is now a warmonument that initially served as a theatre between 1893 and 1942.
In 1942 and 1943, it served as a deportation center for Dutch Jews. Ferdinand Hugo aus der Fünten, captain of the SS, had selected this building as suitable for holding large groups of Jews for short periods before their deportation to the concentration camps in Germany and Poland. A total of 104.000 Dutch Jews were killed in the concentration camps, a large number of them presumably having spent time here.
Since 1958, the building has been a warmonument, with expositions on the persecution of the Dutch Jews.
