Kindred opinions
The opinions and beliefs of the Kindred are as varied as those of mortals, if not moreso. And some topics might remain elusive for players. You might have difficulty imagining how your character would look at a certain group or topic. Sure, the big topics and groups, like the clans and covenants, are not a problem, but what about other topics? How do the Dutch Kindred look at these things? Here you can find out. Written down for each topic are the perspectives of three Dutch Kindred, each holding a different opinion on the same subject. Don't hestitate to suggest topics for consideration here using our forums!
Malkavians
The Malkavians are almost universally feared and shunned by Kindred society; their plague of madness is said to pass quite easily from one Kindred to the other. Yet though their madness might make most of them into dangerous creatures without a purpose and without a use, some of them transcend that condition, and become something more. They tap into some unique property of the curse of Malkavia, and gain access to the discipline of Dementation. Where those who fail to tap into this power are known as the Afflicted, those who master Dementation become known as the Demented; they are prophets and masters of madness. Their insights are valued greatly by those who learn to see the truth in them, but to do so is difficult at the best of times; the cryptic nature of their visions makes the truth elude even the Demented.
Opinions
- “Malkavians huh? Yeah i know of them. I try to stay as far the fuck away from them as I possibly can, you know? They can infect you with that shit don’t you realize? Make you as fucked up as they are. But yeah, it’s strange the sort of things that they blurt out sometimes, I mean, mostly it’s just random bullshit, but sometimes…man, I don’t know. Sometimes I swear there’s something to that damn Malkavian insight of theirs, they know shit they’re not supposed to know, and not because they’re sneaky bastards like the Mekhet either, I guess that’s why the higher-ups like to keep them around, give them some shit out of the way jobs so they can’t cause some massive fuckup, and reap the occasional bits of insight from their polluted sawdust filled heads. I’d feel a whole lot better if they just weren’t around though.” - Carthian Nosferatu
- “The Demented you say? Yes, poor bastards. I’m not sure what’s wrong with them truthfully. I’ve heard the rumors ofcourse that it’s some sort of disease, but honestly I can’t be sure of that, it sounds like Ventrue propaganda to me, even if some of them practically parade the issue around as though it’s some sort of divine test. Either way, I think something else is at work, something none of us can even guess at. I suppose there’s some blessing in their insights to be had though, better one of the Demented than one of the Afflicted, as the talk goes. Although then again, that does depend on wether you accept there's something to their insights in the first place, i suppose.” - Invictus Daeva
- “They’re not diseased my man, they’re enlightened. Don’t look at me like that, you ever seen someone enlightened who wasn’t a little crazy? Shit, they called Einstein crazy too, guy couldn’t even make his socks match, but he was a freaking genius. The Malkavians see the divine reality through the lens that is their mad blood. It’s not a disease, and they’re not a bloodline either, they’re…well, if you want my honest opinion, I think they’re the birth of a new clan. That’s right, and I bet you the Ventrue aren’t going to shed any tears when they can finally disavow themselves from them. Sure, you’ve got Malkavians of every clan, but once they turn Afflicted, nobody treats them as whatever clan they came from anymore, not even they themselves…that should tell you something, shouldn’t it?” - Acolyte Mekhet
