Shadows over Amsterdam

Because somehow, we're still here.

Singel Prostitution Zone

Contrary to popular belief, Amsterdam has not one, but three red-light districts. The most famous one being the area known as the Wallen. But there's also significant sex-industry activity surrounding the Singel (one of the canals) aswell as the Ruysdaelkade. In the Singel area, a large concentration of such activity can be found between the Spuistraat and the Singel, near the Oude Nieuwstraat. This area falls under the Damrak domain.

Though the buildings in this small area are old, they are not as richly decorated as they are in the rest of the historic city. They follow the standard 17th century architecture, but are otherwise made up out of bland and uninteresting brick facades. Here, in these tightly packed houses, women (and men), sell themselves for money, displaying their goods behind windows. The services on offer here are no less sought after than those in the Wallen, but there are decidedly less tourists here. And if rumors are true, then at least some of what can be bought here, goes well beyond what society would find acceptable. Indeed, if they are to be believed, the rumors suggest that you can buy pretty much any type of sex here, from beastiality to live-amputation porn. And the women? They're not supposed to have much of a choice half of the time. This is the turf of the Yamaguchi-Gumi afterall, and they are not squimish about human slavery.

The clubs here vary from literally underground affairs, to quite luxurious asian styled affairs, and a wide range in between, servicing both the dirt poor, and the filthy rich, all in a tiny compact area.
